Good but NOT ENOUGH

I found this book pretty good and essential only on the topics it covered.
However, The Essential spectrum even for an essential pocket text reference, is NOT essentially essential enough.
Examples of would be pretty Essential and Basic PM&R Topics evidently missing are: Chronic Pain, Multiple Sclerosis, GBS, Geriatrics Rehab. These tpoics are very commonplace in any PM&R Setting (almost bread and butter in PM&R) and leaving them out in an essential text like that is akin (well almost) to committing a Mortal Sin. As such the title of the book should be more aptly called 'Selected Common Topics in PM&R Practice' so as not to Mislead buyers like myself.
I found the book grossly overpriced for the substance it contains.
I would strongly recommend potential buyers to re-consider if thinking of purchasing this and instead look to the Pocketpedia of Howard Choi MD (this is what I would call a true blue essential PM&R in a classic form ie small. portable and relevant information filled), best bang for the buck. Actually isn't it about time Howard came up with an updated edition of the Pocketpedia for next year ?
Since there is no 2.5 stars I decided to edge on to 3 stars (but still think it only deserves a 2.5 star rating. 'Crikey'

Helpful overview

Overall, this is an excellent and much needed short review of PM&R. It's detailed enough to give you what you need -- but short enough to not get bogged down. The level of detail is closest to Secrets...but better. Some of the chapters (Spinal Cord, TBI, Stroke, Spine and musculoskeletal, Neuromuscular, Ortho rehab) are outstanding and some seem a little too detailed (Cardiac and Pulmonary chapters).

Excellent!

There is no better book for reviewing PM&R before and during clinical rotations. Each chapter is pretty much a different rotation, and each goes into enough detail without going overboard. It fits in your pocket, which is nice. I use it during the day for board review and Cuccurullo for board review at night.
