A great read

This is a book that you read effortlessly, despite the fact that it addresses some of life's most difficult questions. I was taken by the fact that Richard from Texas (the character that so many of us love from Eat, Pray, Love) wrote the forward and that Richard is a devotee of the mystic, Sadghuru Jaggi Vasudev, who is a co-author. I also found that I could easily identify with the other author Cheryl Simone, her trials and personal struggles, and her search for someone to help her make sense of this life. How fortunate she was to have the attention of her guru for a whole week - I had a chance to meet him at the Washington, D.C. launch of the book last week that I had learned about on the Isha Foundation website. I urge anyone who is a seeker to avail yourself of the opportunity to sit with him and listen to his practical wisdom.

I had hoped the chapters to have more Q & A sessions with Sadhguru but the first few chapters were about Cheryl and her life...

She often writes her chapters like a novel(why do I have to know which way the breeze is blowing?)...she needs to skip all the niceties and just focus on her questions with Sadhguru and share his insight with us..

Update: 10/25/2008 - I continue to be baffled at the 5-star reviews this book has garnered here...Granted, the reviewers maybe spell-bound but there isn't any new information in this book that most of you would have picked it up in your spiritual path...

Well-Written Introductory Text

The book contains concepts and algorithms in the first half, and then lists (I think 3) distributed operating systems in the back as case studies. The book is very readable and entertaining, assuming you've had a course (or the equivalent) in (single machine) operating systems.
This book covers all major aspects of distributed operating systems at reasonable level of depth -- you can't expect too much detail if you're going to cover all the topics.
There's no examples of "real" code in the text, I think that's a good thing. There are a number of useful algorithms discussed in each chapter.
This book is aging, and a little of the information is already dated (7 years old).

Easy to read introduction to the subject

This book is a convenient alternative to a senior-level course in operating systems. I intend to buy Tanenbaum's other operating system book. It is very easy to read and refreshingly pithy. Unlike many technical books, which fill pages by reproducing online documentation as an appendix, every page was worth printing. The examples are complete enough to understand the core concepts but assume you have the intelligence not to need excessive handholding. References are provided for readers interested in learning more about specific concepts.

The major flaw with this book is that it is now more than 15 years old. I would like to see an updated version that takes into account some of the latest operating system research. That said, the concepts are fundamental ones and cover most of the issues discussed are still relevant today.

Good for Kindergarten

I used this curriculum with my five year old daughter. It is very easy for her. It's pretty dry and basic and is more geared towards K. Way too simple for first grade. Part 1 seems to focus on the same concepts and it is way too repetitive. 30 lessons in, and she is being asked same questions she received in lessons 1. It's rather tedious and annoying. Hopefully part 2, is a lot more challenging and rewarding for us.

I can not say enough about Saxon Math, we have used this curriculum for years! The manipulatives are fantastic and the kids enjoy learning with them and even the workbook! The incremental based program builds and gives them confidence throughout their math years!

Happy tears!!!

What a lovely (& sexy, of course) ending to this wonderful series!! So happy we got to know Alexia better, as well as (oh, so very HOT) Sebastian; and to see this entire group of friends find their futures! I'm so very sorry to have to say goodbye to them, but I am glad to have had a glimpse into their lives, and I'll sleep well tonight assured that their futures are bright because they have each other to lean on. Thank you Dani for giving me a seat on their journey!

Fitting End

Kudos to Ms. Lovell this book was well worth the wait. I enjoyed the whole Sexy series wish it didn't have to end. The way she started with Alexia and Sebastian story and ended with beautiful wedding of Bea and Dainel. Can't wait to see what she has in store. She has a true fan in me.

Wonderful draws you in. You'll want more and more but you got to start from book one to get the jiz of things . It's amazing dani did a great job again so can't wait for a new series to come . Ok bye bout to reread all books again lol
