a concise collection of truly useful advice, complete with concrete recommendations

I like the six stages that Meyer identifies in learning the language. I immediately identified myself with her description of an "Upper Beginner", and found the corresponding list of suggested materials helpful for my current learning situation.
I also like the "Potential reward" suggestions at the end of each level. They're like an unexpected dessert at the end of a tough day, but could also be great for setting up external motivation for yourself at the beginning of a language learning push.
Finally, I appreciate her advice on how to use textbooks. I find that many people do not know how to use a textbook for self-study, perhaps because they've always been guided through them by teachers. I have found myself naturally exploring and figuring out my own way to use my textbooks, and my resulting method comes pretty close to what Meyer recommends. [Essentially, you should pay attention to what's happening in your mind and do whatever you feel you need in order to cement the new word or grammar concept.]
Overall this is a handy guide for Mandarin learners at any level. It's a concise collection of truly useful advice, complete with concrete recommendations for all sorts of language learning resources.

This is a great source of links, tips and tricks, learning material etc. Judith is a real polyglot. She`s fluent in more than 10 langauges, among them Mandarin. So...she knows a thing or two about studying languages. Get her booklet and follow her advice! It will certainly speed up the process of becoming fluent in Chinese!
